Anny de Groot was born in Mill, a small village in the Southern part of Holland.
Part of a big family, Anny showed a lot of interest in drawing and painting from an early age. At 17, she followed a 2 year correspondence course with the “Famous Artist’s School” in Oil and Watercolour painting. This course provided her with the knowledge and skill needed to create paintings that communicate ideas and emotions. She soon found that drawing and painting can make every day an exciting adventure filled with new experiences.

Her earlier paintings were in oil, influenced by the surrealism movement seeking to express subconscious activities of the mind as revealed in dreams.

Anny came to New Zealand in 1983, took some classes in water colour, but did not find this medium to be to her liking and switched to acrylics and pastels. What appeals to Anny, is that pastels are a unique medium, which can be applied in a number of ways, each creating a distinctive style, infinitely variable and blending colours to a level of vibrancy not otherwise seen on a painting.

With her roots in the southern part of Holland, where entertainment and carnivals are alive and well, Anny has a strong liking for the joy and colour of life.
This exhibition includes paintings in both acrylic and pastel mediums. With a revival of ethnic cultures, Anny loves to portray people from different ethnic backgrounds.

Her latest works are a series of clowns. Her work is always bright and colourful. The clowns are for adding fun, high energy, hilarious and crazy antics to life.

Anny hopes that you enjoy her work.
